the hearts and laserbeams blog!

recently blogger decided we can't publish my blog to my own website anymore so here we are! pardon the dust, and please visit us online at www.heartsandlaserbeams.com!

hearts and laserbeams is the wacky good-times art and design by me, steph calvert. i team up with robots, cupcakes, and stick people to show people art isn’t all about seriousness, missing ears, and deep thoughts; it can actually be tons of fun.

let me tell you that one of the best ways to spend a saturday night is to go on a quest for frozen white castle burgers and beer, and then sit down to watch harold and kumar go to white castle! here, let angela demonstrate the proper white castle box handling technique! cheers to a night of roboting and drinking!

also, this just in: i finally saw pretty in pink!

it was really good, i loved iona but hated ducky and wanted to punch him in the face during the entire movie! does this make me a heartless bastard?

also, if andie had gone into business designing prom dresses for old ladies i bet she would've made a killing... or i have no fashion sense whatsoever.

but it was awesome nonetheless, and it felt good to tick off from the list another 80s movie that i've always heard was awesome but have never ever seen.

speaking of, josh and i were talking about how i should actually write down the names of all these movies i haven't seen so i can rent of a bunch of em and take care of business. 25 points to you if you name an awesome 80s movie that i haven't seen and should!

i've seen parts of risky business... but not enough to recognize the egg that supposedly got ripped off from the auction on the oc so i guess it's not enough of the movie to count so that's in!

by the way that EGG from the oc was so not the same egg from risky. The egg in risky was like stylized and had like trwisty grooves in it. it wasn't all smooth

Pretty in Pink was definitely the weakest in the John Hughes canon (before he started doing all that Home Alone shit), but I do still pause and watch whenever it comes on cable. So, have you seen ALL of John Hughes' 80s films? Weird Science? Some Kind of Wonderful? Aside from John Hughes, what about Teen Wolf (the orig. with MJ Fox, not Jason Bateman--which I've never seen, but probably should).

you get points for weird science and some kind of wonderful, but not for teen wolf cuz i saw it!

josh also gets weird science and sixteen candles points because he brought those up last night!

especially the scene where they're in the getaway car and they're peeling off the shelfpaper. that is the finest movie moment ever! (except for neil patrick harris doing blow off of a hookers ass in harold and kumar go to white castle!)

Steph-
See "Three O' Clock High". A little-known 80's wonder that WASN'T directed by John Hughes.
Starred Casey Siemaszko, one of the 3 bullies in the "Back to the Future" movies that fucked with McFly.
Also, as teen movies go, seen "Once Bitten" with a young Jim Carrey? If you liked "Teen Wolf", try this gem.
Also, (since I am the horror nut)-try "Fright Night". It's really good. Ask Jen. Got the guy that starred on the early 90's show, Herman's Head in it. Also got Marcy from Married with Children.

if your into a good killing movie, Platoon, Pretator, and Care Bears the movie are all winners. If you are into something a little lighter, Better off Dead, (mainly cause that hot chick that sings the Better off Dead song,, Smokin' hot 80's babe with big hair), MOnster Squad (cause you kicked wolfman in the balls), Goonies (cause this is "our time, our time down here... It's their time, their time up there"... god bless corey Haim or feldman), Animalimpics(just fuckin awsome cartoon animals),

Bah!! Stay off the internet for one day and miss a one of the greatest blog entries of all time! i say this, of course, because of the fabulous picture!! why didn't you tell me that i'm sooooo hot? ok, here are my suggestions for 80's movies that i believe should be staples in everyone's collection: Real Genius (young Val Kilmer=FANTASTIC!), Rock 'n Roll High School Forever (ok, so it technically came out in 1990, but it stars Corey Feldman at the peak of his career and it's classic 80s... really), The Chipmunk Movie Adventure, Howard the Duck, and The 'Burbs.
