the hearts and laserbeams blog!

recently blogger decided we can't publish my blog to my own website anymore so here we are! pardon the dust, and please visit us online at www.heartsandlaserbeams.com!

hearts and laserbeams is the wacky good-times art and design by me, steph calvert. i team up with robots, cupcakes, and stick people to show people art isn’t all about seriousness, missing ears, and deep thoughts; it can actually be tons of fun.

dude i don't know what it is about spinach that is sooooo tasty, but sometimes i'll get the bag from the fridge and eat it like potato chips.

and let me tell you folks, every single time i have to go to the post office on 3rd and long beach boulevard i die a little inside. because i don't care who you are or what your business is, there is NO REASON an entire family of twelve needs to be crowded around the one passport window. especially when the only thing some of the adults were doing was holding infants. you guys, holding infants - how about you take the other kids just milling around your entourage and leave the cramped little lobby area?

every time i go to this post office it's completely slammed, millions of people, line out the lobby door, leaving me standing in line with thoughts of paying a visit to the stockade.

i appreciate that to help alleviate this problem, the post office has put in one of those freaking amazing awesome automated postage machines where you can buy postage of all kinds with your atm card. the best thing about these machines is that almost no one uses them. it's like those check-yourself-out lines at the grocery store; new technology is scary. there was a chick in line before me at that machine this afternoon, and it was obviously her first time using it because 1) she was there for five hours and 2) every single keystroke she did was hit a full minute after the last. click........click........click......t-t-t-t-today, junior! it's just keying in a zip code!!! finally, five days later and much skinnier from skipping all those meals, i got to use the automated postage system. it printed the first label out fine. and then decided to stop working. meaning i have to now get in this five hundred person long line for the counter. after the five year wait at the machine.

it was at that moment that i finally understood what going postal meant.

except that i think the saying only applies to people who work at the post office. so never mind, i still missed the point of that saying. but i didn't miss the point of this rant, which was this: i was just at the post office for a full hour, waiting in various lines, to mail three small packages. instead of going to the gym afterwards as originally planned, i figured what i really needed to do was come home, watch peoples court, and eat some candy.

Dude, I know about wanting to go postal despite not being a postal worker. It happens every time I have to make a visit to a post office. Any office, although that one you went to sounds more horrific than most. They need to come up with a term for us--how about going postal customre?

Steph-
I'm feelin ya too girl.
I can't tell you how many mofos here in Columbia would rather wait in that damn line that goes out the door than use the mailing machine with the ATM card attachment.
These people still use the freekin' abacus and shit. I have stood behind some brave souls attempting the "new technology" and you described it PERFECTLY.
I wanna walk up, take their package off the weighing scale, slam it to the ground, pie face them outta the way, and do my transaction, pick up their package, place it back on the scale, pull their retarded ass back in the line in front of the machine, smile at them, and walk away......
I hate da post offfffiiiiice!
PEACE!
