the hearts and laserbeams blog!

recently blogger decided we can't publish my blog to my own website anymore so here we are! pardon the dust, and please visit us online at www.heartsandlaserbeams.com!

hearts and laserbeams is the wacky good-times art and design by me, steph calvert. i team up with robots, cupcakes, and stick people to show people art isn’t all about seriousness, missing ears, and deep thoughts; it can actually be tons of fun.

typing with a squirmy 2 year old on your lap is tough, lemme tell ya. he just got done gumming my arm to death... (and boy are my arms tired??)

so i should spill on the new jobby job, yes? cuz i haven't really taken the time to talk about it yet... basically i work for a place that does screenprinted t's for everyone and their brother, places like disneyland and universal studios and department stores and so on. you name it and they probably have a hand in doing some stuff for them. the art department's like 20 people. when the artist finishes a tshirt design it gets approved and that's that they're done with it and they move on to the next project. but if something needs to be changed, like a ground color or show it on a sweatshirt instead of a tshirt - that's my job, to take care of the changes.

it's cool in that it's more technical than art jobs i've had in the past. and it's kind of neat that now that i'm not doing a creative-type job i'm actually having ideas for paintings that i'll work on when i get my own place this fall. i know in the long run i'd rather be doing something more creative job-wise, but when that time comes i can actually talk to my boss about moving into one of the artsy type positions.

so yeah - i'm really liking it, even the breakneck go go go pace.

this coming week's gonna rock - i'm gonna sleep in a bed for the first time in over a month! oh yeah and then there's a certain special graduation ann and i are going to, and the good times that'll come with it! i can't wait for next weekend!

I HEART JOHNNY CASTLE 4-EVER!!!
